About

the misadventures of brian leery
harmless? bananas! is the collective thoughts of brian leery in blog form. I write under this pseudonym because it’s a more interesting last name than koh, not that I’m ashamed of my heritage. my real name is brian though.
I uttered my first words onto the blogosphere and started the original harmless? bananas! in 2003 and set up an interim blog in mid 2009, but I’m still pretty much the same person behind the keyboard.
I was born in 1982, raised in Singapore and spent three and a half years in Perth where I pursued my undergraduate studies in Media Arts and Mass Communications at Murdoch University. I currently live in Singapore.
In my spare time, I play bass in various bands and projects, listen to too much music, make videos, play video games recreationally, spend an average amount of time reading and I maintain various other blog projects.
My interests lie in the field of music, writing, culture, technology, media and communications and my first job (April 2007) was with Ogilvy Public Relations Singapore / Ogilvy Digital Influence where I worked with clients such as Intel and PlayStation. My work involved client servicing, project management, technical writing and media relations in both traditional and social medias.
In September 2010, I joined the Ministry of Education, Singapore as a contract teacher where I taught English and Social Studies.
In February 2012, I joined The Pigeonhole as a waitstaff where I learned how to make coffee, serve drinks and pretty treat the customers right. I also helped run a few events such as Open Mic sessions, or organised small gigs that the cafe would run.
This version of harmless? bananas! was started by brian leery in late 2009, and is part of the litford network, a concept created to deal with the fractal nature of our online personalities. You can read about that dreary stuff here or visit his geeky taste blog, geekulture. He also ran singularity industries, a blog that discussed the present, to prepare for the future that ironically stopped getting updated in January 2011
